1948 Chris-Craft 16 Runabout Antique in East Texas

This is a 1948 Chris-Craft 16 Special Runabout (aka) The Rocket. A True Classic and Genuine Must See!

Looking at this boat brings about a lot of realizations:
~
No CAD System or Software played any part in the production of this boat. Back then, it was Ideas and Blueprints.
~
This boat was not stamped out of an Injection Mold. Back then, it was from the Hands of Extremely Gifted Boat Builders.
~
A boat as timeless as this could only have been born from fine wood and those gifted hands just mentioned.

Taking this listing was a true gift for me. I have to admit I pulled up a chair and just sat there looking at her for better part of a half hour. The more I looked the more I saw. The more I saw the more my appreciation grew for this classic boat and the pride that went into building her. The next person to own this boat will know exactly what I'm talking about.

A little history:
This boat is known by many as The Special Runabout.
However, Chris Craft actually called it The Rocket. For all intents and purposes The Rocket was the same boat as the 1938 Deluxe Runabout which Chris Craft lengthened by 6 inches just before the Second World War. According to production records Chris Craft built 1,040 Rockets from late 1945 through 1948.

If you're a Chris Craft or Classic Boat Collector, or if you just love well built things that have stood the test of time, then this boat is yours to be had.

Information On Condition

The seller reports this boat to be in Good Working Order and ready for her next captain and chapter in her history yet to come.

Please note that I am not a marine inspector. The following information as to the condition of this boat should be seen as "my impressions only".

This boat looks to be in very good condition.

Taking the listing photos I noticed very few scratches that I would classify as Light to Minor.

There was a very small place (about the size of a quarter) that needs a little touch up on the starboard side close to the transom.

The hull looked smooth and solid. It is not known if the bottom of the boat was sealed or using one of several methods. This sort of treatment is sometimes used in order to keep wooden boats from having to soak when put in the water. Soaking is when the wood is allowed to swell from the water which forms a tighter fit. During this process wooden boats will leak some until the swelling is complete.
