Award-Winning Design Sets Everglades Boats Apart
If you've followed the boating industry at all, one of the first things you notice is that there have been a lot of hands in many of the various manufacturing companies.

Most of the builders started out as small shops that blossomed into corporations. Over the years, even larger corporations have bought and sold the various builders, but even still, the majority have maintained their integrity and dedication to building quality boats.

Father and son team Bob and Stephen Dougherty experienced some of those transitions during their career, which began with Boston Whaler in 1960, when Bob worked as the chief engineer, and later chief designer and senior VP of engineering.

His son joined the company in 1984. But when the company changed hands in 1990, the Doughertys struck out on their own to start Edgewater Powerboats, where they stayed until 1995.

But during that time, they perfected the patented RAMCAP (Rapid Molded Core Assembly Process) construction that chemically bonds the deck and the hull together, creating a solid hull and liner combination.

This construction, which won the 1999 National Marine Manufacturers Association Innovation Award, ensured a boat as unsinkable as the Boston Whaler. They parlayed this success into the company: Everglades by Dougherty.

Everglades innovations secured other NMMA awards, such as the 2002 innovation award for its V-Hull Bay Boats that utilized RAMCAP construction and the fishing boats innovation winner in 2005.

Today, Everglades by Dougherty constructs a variety of models including center consoles, dual consoles, cabins and pilots that are recognized for several innovations, including patented windshield designs, deep V-hull and pre-molded high-density closed cell, structural foam flotation, according the company's website.

The boats, and the majority of the boats' components are built in a 125,000-square-foot factory in Edgewater, FL, where tours are available by appointment to check out how the Dougherty boats come together.

Used Everglades boats are in high demand and are challenging to keep in stock. In POP Yachts' listings, we have some exception options, including the 2008 Everglades 240 CC pictured above.
