El Cajon is one of the region's premiere locations in which to live, work and play. As the fifth largest city in San Diego County, El Cajon boasts a diverse and vibrant community. Its also home to Lake Jennings. An 85 acre lake in Lakeside, 26 miles east of downtown San Diego. This deep clearwater reservoir is known for producing big largemouth bass and blue catfish. Jennings also stocks rainbow trout frequently in the winter months, with fresh fish being stocked about every 2 weeks. Channel catfish are stocked in the summer months, and just a couple years ago Lake Jennings stocked wipers, or hybrid striped bass in the lake to create another unique fish for anglers of San Diego to chase. See our fish stocking page for information on scheduled fish plants. The lake staff at Lake Jennings arguably do more for their fishery than any other lake staff in the county. They're constantly looking for ways to improve the fishing at the lake, something that is rare in this area.
