Taunton is a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States, located approximately 40 miles south of Boston, 18 miles east of Providence, 10 miles north of Fall River, 20 miles north of New Bedford, and 25 miles west of Plymouth. It is also the seat of Bristol County. Taunton is situated on the Taunton River which winds its way through the city on its way to Mount Hope Bay, 10 miles to the south. Massasoit State Park is a Massachusetts state park located on the southeast side of the city of Taunton with some parklands spilling into the adjacent town of Lakeville. The park's heavily wooded acres include six lakes and ponds (Lake Rico, Furnace Pond, King's Pond, Middle Pond, Little Bearhole Pond, and Big Bearhole Pond) and numerous cranberry bogs. The park has an extensive trail system for walking, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and equestrian use. It also is the perfect spot of camping and fishing adventures.
