When you walk up to a big center console like the Grady-White 336 Canyon, the only real response you can have is "I gotta' get me one of these!" With the overhaul this boat received in 2017, that feeling is doubled. You cannot buy a factory new Grady-White with the features and capability that this one comes with. She may have been laid down in 2008, but everything inside is 2017. This one truly is a fisherman's dream come true.
At 33'6" long and 11'7" at her widest beam, this is a big boat. As a result, she carries a yacht certification and is probably one of the most capable and stable offshore fishing center consoles you'll ever meet.
Climbing aboard in the stern, you are immediately struck by the width of this vessel. The stern beam is over 10 feet, and it is put to its maximum capability for the fishermen aboard.
The entire transom is a 290qt fish box/cooler with a huge bait prep station on top completed with a freshwater washdown/shower. The starboard transom door gives easy access to the motors and swim ladder. The transom features a drop-down seat for two to three people.
Beneath the transom bench is a large access panel into the bilge that provides storage for large items, like a big bouy to tie on to your anchor line should you have to cut it loose, and access to the tournament grade livewell pumps and fuel priming bulbs and fuel filters.
Opposite the transom is a rigging station with a pair of 45+ gallon live wells, tackle storage, and another freshwater washdown. The rigging station features six rocket launcher rod holders plus five more on the hard top above. The gunwales feature a total of 10 vertical rod holders along the length of the vessel and room for up to a dozen more stored under the gunwales.
The helm station is huge with seating for three in custom Lebroc bolstered seats. It features an electromechanical pop-up dash console, a windshield with wiper and isinglass wrap around sides, and full digital engine instrumentation. The seller installed canvas/isinglass wings separating the cockpit and helm from the bow for wind protection. At full speed, passengers in the cockpit are completely protected from wind and wind-driven rain blowing in from the bow.
The helm station includes three independent GPS sources, a Northstar 952x and Garmin GPSMap xs in the overhead electronics box and a Northstar 6100i in the pop-up dash console. There are two independent depth and fishfinder units, the Garmin GPSMap xs, which features look down and sidescan transducers, and a Si-Tex unit with its own tranducer on a separate frequency from the Garmin. Unlike most fish finders, the Si-Tex will never blank out, no matter how fast the boat is going. It still gives an accurate look at the bottom at 30kts or more.
The Garmin GPSMap xs is also fed by a 48-mile Garmin digital doppler radar with target acquisition. It will let you pick a target storm cell and track its movement, just like you see on your local news station. The Garmin also feeds the Simrad autopilot to drive you straight to your favorite fishing spots. All you have to do is man the throttles. Sorry folks, this charter captain's hot spots do not come with the unit.
The five batteries are under the helm seating. The hard top above has hanging storage for four fishing rods and features a pair of outriggers and their deployment handles.
The bow area features a helm console seat for 1-2 individuals, a casting deck with padded seating, four additional vertical rod holders, and two more 165qt insulated fish boxes. Beverage holders abound to keep drink cans and bottles from rolling around the deck. The windlass and anchor locker round out the bow with a large anchor on the bow pulpit.
While many of the larger center console fishing boats boast of a console head, the 336 Canyon features a deceptively large cabin with electric flush head, sink/shower, and double berth. In the console cabin, you also find all of the AC electrical controls, waste pump-out control, access to the helm electronics bay, and storage for six more fishing rods.
If you weren't keeping track, the total potential rod storage comes to 10 along the gunwales, four vertical in the bow, four under the top, 12 under the gunwales, 6 in the cabin, and 11 rocket launchers. Add it all together and that's room for up to 47 fishing rods or other gear like gaff hooks, poles, scrub brushes, and more. If you have more stuff than this to put on the boat, you need a bigger boat.
The bow pulpit on this vessel is a custom-made unit that puts the anchor out where the captain can see it, rather than under the bow like these boats were built with. The pulpit is built so strongly that a man can jump up and down on it with no problem. It is reinforced with 3" square aluminum bar and features a Lewmar Pro-series windlass. It also features a fiberglass pipe guiding the rode and chain to and from the anchor well to prevent knots and kinks. There is an electric windlass switch behind the anchor well panel in the bow to backup the helm switch and the windlass can be wound manually should all else fail.
This Grady-White is powered by a pair of 2017 model year Suzuki 300hp outboards, still with five years of warranty remaining. This is a working charter boat, so the 500 hours on these motors are cruising hours getting to and from the offshore fishing spots. They have plumbed-in freshwater rinse lines and get rinsed after every trip. These motors are mounted wide on the transom, giving this vessel far superior maneuverability over a stock boat with narrow mounted Yamahas. It can be backed out and away from the dock with just differential thrust on the motors.
The vessel is lift-kept, keeping the vessel out of the water between uses. The vessel's bottom is painted and the paint is in excellent condition.
This vessel is truly turn-key. She was completely re-powered, rewired, reupholstered, and replumbed from stem to stern in 2017. The hull may say 2008, but everything inside the hull is just a year old.
The remodel of this vessel left no detail untouched. Every plastic sleeved gas shock on every hatch was replaced with stainless steel models that will not break. A super strong custom bow pulpit with Lewmar windlass was installed. Lebroc helm seats with flip-up bolsters were installed. Modifications were made to allow access to every corner of the hull possible. No stone was left unturned.
When the vessel was overhauled, the factory Yamaha 350 motors were replaced with Suzuki 300s and the never used generator was removed. The vessel was never equipped with air conditioning, so the generator served no purpose. This reduced the weight of the vessel by 1000lbs, yielding overall improved performance and better fuel economy. In addition, all Suzuki motors come with a transferable 6-year warranty, and this pair has 5 years warranty remaining.
