1961 Chesapeake 32 Cruiser Sailboat in Galveston, Texas

Stock #119283

Although located in Canada, due to Canadian regulations, this boat is not available for sale to potential buyers in Canada.

The Kagen crossed the Atlantic twice so far in her life. This is a solid ocean going vessel for sure.

Designed by Philip Rhodes in 1958 for George B. Walton, a Yacht broker in Maryland. Approximately 95 were built between 1960 and 1965; 35 by Danboats in Aeroskbing, Denmark and the balance by Sanderson in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Her hull is solid glass with integral tanks and her deck was cored with mahogany plywood. She sails very well and is weatherly, stands up well and is nearly perfectly balanced.

Originally commissioned by US Yacht broker, George Walton and built in Denmark. They were sold under a number of names including DANBOAT 33 and ISL 33. Most boats were exported to the US and France. Gulf Marine in California bought the molds and also built about 10 hulls sold as the CABRRILLO 32.

Philip L. Rhodes, born in 1895, was a prolific and versatile boat designer, whose career spanned more than five decades from 1919 until his death in 1974. His range of design was amazing, from 123' motorsailers to 7' dinghies, from hydrofoil racers to giant motor yachts. His clients ranged from Rockefellers to Sears and Roebuck. His 12 Meter Weatherly won the America's Cup in 1962. And, in addition, he designed a wide range of commercial craft.

"Whatever kind of vessel he produced, it invariably had the look of rightness about it. His sailing yachts in particular, with their beautifully proportioned hulls and graceful sheerlines, are works of true design harmony. Not only are Rhodes yachts handsome; they somehow appear to be uniquely suited to their purpose.

Information On Condition

Very good condition for its age. Kept at a professional marina in Galveston. The port type windows do not open to keep thing water tight when crossing oceans.

The seller just sanded and varnished all of the beautiful teak, so Kagan is ready for showings.
