1973 Irwin 37-1 masthead sloop was designed by Ted Irwin and produced from 1971 until 1976, when a bowsprit was added to create the 37-2 model.
Known as Chevrolet Bellaire of sailing cruisers, this fin keel aft cockpit sailing cruiser features a spacious mid-cabin main saloon, a cozy V-berth forward, separated by an enclosed head with shower from the main saloon. Galley with stove, sink with hot / cold water, and a fridge to port, opposite nav station.
A small house air conditioner works on shore power only.
A twin aft berth is to starboard behind the nav station.
A 50 HP diesel starts right up and provides plenty of torque. Engine hours unknown.
Mainsail, 130% genoa and jib on a roller furler are in good condition. There are two Lewmar 45 winches and a smaller Lewmar for the main halyard at mast.
Electronics include Garmin GPSmap 547xs chartplotter and sounder, VHF marine radio, stereo system, and a compass.
Fair condition for a 45-year old sailing cruiser. Chain plates, shrouds, backstay appear new. Running rigging seems serviceable.
The cabin is clean and dry, no leaky portholes or hatches, often found on older sailboats.
Engine starts right up, is loud as hell, pulls strongly. Drive engages smoothly. Steering, shift, and throttle work smoothly.
No soft spots on deck or in the cabin. Spiderweb gell coat cracks visible at two stanchion bases.
The boat is due for a new coat of bottom paint but gets scrubbed by a diver monthly.
