The Islander 28 exhibits a nice lines with the roof line returning at an opposing angle as it moves forward. These lines combined with the slightly reversed transom giving it a feeling of speed and beauty. As for speed, many Islander 28 owners report cruising consistently at 6 knots. The Islander 28 points high on the wind than many other sailboats and gets to your destination faster than most boats in its class. Even in light airs, an Islander 28 continues to impress.
Atypical for a sailboat of this size, this Islander 28 has a wheel instead of a tiller making it a great boat to learn to sail on and prepare for larger sailboats.
The Islander 28 is easy to single-hand sail as all the lines go back to the cockpit. The traveler is forward of the companionway, which makes it harder to let out the mainsail while single-handed sailing, but it greatly reduces the clutter and obstacles in the cockpit, which is a challenge in many smaller boats with the traveler in the middle of the cockpit.
Down below, there is a galley to port at the bottom of the stairs. To starboard there is a quarterberth. There is a settee on each side of the boat in the main salon with a fold up table for dining. Going forward there is a head with a toilet and sink to starboard, a hanging close to berth and then a v-berth that sleeps two.
This Islander 28 has been used as a cozy liveaboard and her owner is ready to move up and get a bigger boat now that she has learned how to sail quite well on this great intro boat. Now it's your turn to have a cute liveaboard and become a better sailor.
We're told all systems work. The hull appears in great condition. This Islander is sailed regularly and the sails, standing rigging and running rigging are reported to be in good condition. The current owner is a diver and regularly scrapes the bottom of her boat herself. The interior floors need to be sanded and varnished.
