A true American success story is nothing better than the story of the J of Johnstones and their highly respected built racer/cruisers from Newport, Rhode Island. The J/28 was designed to be easily handled by two sitting in the aft cockpit sailing windward in 20 knots of wind, making the J/28 one of the fastest and most stable 28 foot cruisers with a solid 3000 lb keel.
The J/28 has a full width laminated structural bulkhead with which is taped on both sides to the hull and deck. The bulkhead also anchors shroud chainplates. The keel is bolted and epoxy bonded to a fiberglass sump. The hull to deck is bolted on 4 inch centers. The built contributes to the high performance.
J Boats are loved for the blister resistant vinylester resin in the hull and the insulating properties of Conatourkore construction providing a cabin that stays warm and insulated for a great night's sleep on the water.
There are six opening ports and three overhead opening hatches providing great cross ventilation making summer days, cool days out of the sun.
Smart is the design of the two berths comfortable at amidships with space to stretch. The port settee berth converts to a 43" wide double, using backrest cushions as fillers. The forward V-berth cabin is almost 6 ft wide at the head with plenty of space for ventilation. Behind the main settee berths are storage areas for duffels, bedrolls, and pillows. A fully enclosed head is available for privacy.
Lots of light and ability to move air throughout the cabin from portholes and hatches. Small galley with beautiful woodwork brings in the warmth of Americana and a table to enjoy dinners with a companion.
The cockpit was mirrored from the J/40 with a complete 40 inch destroyer wheel, foot supports, padded horseshoe ring seat, instrument pods and with comfort in mind.
Small Jibs and large mainsail stores in the two huge cockpit lazarette lockers. A nice dodger completes the deck.
The seller has all manuals, will include some life jackets and two oars.
