Get ready to roll up your sleeves and go to work. This MacGregor 65 Pilothouse is the kind of project opportunity that only presents itself once in a lifetime! The project is partially completed and the boat is being sold as-is/where-is!!
The MacGregor 65 Pilothouse is an amazing yacht with four cabins, two heads, and the ability to sleep 10. Entering the cabin from the large aft cockpit, the aft stateroom is behind the companionway and it contains a king size bed and a separate single berth with a walkway between them. Moving forward in the cabin the galley is on the port side with a sink, oven, and icebox. The navigation station is on the starboard side with a very wide, elevated bench seat where the crew can see out the pilothouse windows. The first head is behind the navigation station.
Moving forward in the cabin the solon is centered in the boat with settees on either side and a large open space. A mid-cabin berth and a second head are forward of the salon and the large forward cabin with elevated V-berth is at the bow end.
On deck, the aft cockpit has a large helm wheel and enough seating for all onboard. At the stern, a hatch provides entry for crew quarters and places for two more berths. The stern-molded steps provide access to the water for swimmers.
The boat is set up for sloop rigging with a keel-stepped mast, roller furling head sail, and a forestay at the bow. The massive shrouds mount at the outside of the deck leaving room to walk next to the pilothouse. This boat comes with a mainsail only.
This MacGregor 65 Pilothouse is a project boat and needs a new owner or crew to finish the restoration. As of the time of the listing, the BUC value of this boat in restored condition was over $150,000.
The boat has weathered many storms and has been docked for several years. The Yanmar engine and generator were run in 2022, the owner confirms. The Yanmar is not wired to the helm for ignition. The boat will need to be rewired and cannot be moved until power and steering are restored. Plumbing work will be needed to re-install a sink, verify water lines, install freshwater pumps, and likely, rebuild or replace toilets in the heads. The boat has not been out of the water for several years and will likely need bottom paint. One air conditioner was not working at the time of the listing.
Five of the original six electric winches were serviced recently, the sixth was removed and not included. The cockpit rail and bow rail have been replaced. A replacement for the starboard-side toe rail is on the boat and needs to be installed. The stanchions for the lifelines have been replaced. The lifeline cables will need to be replaced by the new owner.
The MacGregor is being sold as-is/where-is. Once under contract, the future buyer can inspect the boat at the dock and use a diver to inspect the bottom if needed. It is a large project for an ambitious crew but an incredible opportunity to own a MacGregor 65 Pilothouse.
