This traditional flush-deck, ocean-going ketch is a Samson C-Baron, designed by C.F. Norris and T. Timmerman. Her construction at a professional ship yard in Vancouver, Canada began in 1989, and she spalshed in 1991. The current owner--after sailing her from California to Virginia--is attending a maritime academy in New York, and thus, wishes to sell her to someone ready for its next adventure.
She is in good-working condition in need of some minor TLC. All sails, standing rigging (new in 2016), running rigging and deck hardware are in good and working condition. Hull and deck paint are in good condition. 1983 Westerbeke 58 with 1,600 hours routinely maintained and runs well. All electronics and lights are in good working condition, as are the boat's 5 x charging systems. Wooden (circ. 1935), FRP-reinforced sailing dinghy and 9' inflatable with outboard are in working condition. Interior furnishing/floor-boards/appliances/wood stoves/plumbing in good-working order. Forward head holding-tank replaced and reconstruction is "on hold" in case future owner wishes to convert into an additional berth.
The hull, deck and cabin are built of Steel Reinforced Plaster, misleadingly known as ferrocement. Though of the same concept, SRP/ferrocement boats are not built in the same manner, nor of the same materials as buildings and bridges. Ferrocement's 2:1 sand-to-cement ratio is impermeable to water and expands and contracts at the same rate as its galvanized, steel superstructure. The result is a long-lasting, extremely strong boat that does not leak like wood, nor rust like steel, nor blister like FRP. She easily crossed the Tehuantepec and Papaguayo, and rounded Point Conception and Cape Hatteras, despite inclement weather. A truly capable bluewater cruiser ready to go anywhere in the world.
Dinghy included: Zodiac 6-man/9ft inflatable (West Marine)
Overall condition inside and out appears VERY GOOD!
Hardwood floors look very nice throughout the cabins
One of the cabins/births is currently being used as his work room (as shown in pictures)
Seller has taken this Samson on long journeys and has kept her updated and ready to sail. Selling because he is starting maritime school
