The Pearson 42 is a production built fiberglass cruising sailboat built by Pearson Yachts in Rhode Island.
The boat is cutter rigged, has a conventional trunk cabin and an aft cockpit. The rudder is skeg hung and it has a fin keel. The boat is beamy, of moderate draft, and has 7,600 pounds of encapsulated ballast.
This model Pearson was in production from 1978 until 1984 and about 225 of them were built.
This boat was completely rebuilt between 2000 and 2004 with just about everything except the hull and deck replaced.
Incredibly restored details both above and below deck make this Pearson 424 Cutter a standout blue water boat,
The sail plan utilizes a main sail with roller furling working jib and inner staysail to provide plenty of power to drive this 21,000-pound beauty. It proves to be a solid platform in a big blow and with opulent comforts below deck. The mast is stepped on the keel.
The large cockpit can accommodate 8 people with a pedestal wheel that is easily removed at anchor or dock. The cockpit is protected by both a dodger and a bimini top in good condition.
A Ritchie compass on the binnacle along with Garmin GPS helps you find the way to your favorite destination.
The headsail sheets lead through deck cars to well placed, large Lewmar 48 self-tailing winches mounted on the cockpit combing with easy access from the helm. The main sail sheets come to a traveler car mounted forward on the cabin top and run through the dodger to Lewmar 30 2 speed winches. The main halyard leads also back to the cockpit.
Six steps down the companionway stairs bring you to an expertly restored and thoughtfully designed cabin. To starboard is the nav station with VHF, stereo and electric panel with a solid stool to sit on a swivel arm coming out from under the chart table.
To port at the bottom of the companionway is the aft stateroom double berth with abundant drawers for storage.
Forward of the nav station and double berth on the port side is the horseshoe galley with ample cabinets and drawers to manage the kitchen tools needed for the gourmet. There is a 3 burner propane stove with oven and a GE Microwave.
There are two separate refrigeration systems: one is a 120-volt AC/12-volt DC Crosby, and the other is a 12-volt Grunert.
Thoughtful touches are all around in the design of this interior. The double sink will make dinner cleanup easy.
Forward to the main cabin is the dining table seating 6 with comfort on the port side across from the 4 person settee with huge storage lockers under. Book shelves and cabinets are above the seating on both port and starboard.
The main cabin has six opening ports and 3 deck hatches allowing abundant light and ventilation.
The boat has two sliding companionway hatches, one in the conventional location just forward of the cockpit, and a second offset to starboard which enters the main cabin. Both of these have very secure locking hardware. In addition, all of the hatches have fabricated stainless steel grids that lock into place from the inside, making the boat very secure.
The forward stateroom in the bow has a 6 foot vee berth, a small settee and ample storage as well as a small washing machine. There are two ports and a deck hatch for wonderful light and ventilation. The forward head has a door for access to the main cabin.
The interior woodwork is excellent with complete restoration in 2012. All the woodwork shines brightly right down to the teak and holly cabin sole.
This boat has seen some serious love.
Pictures 243 to end were taken during a cruise in June/July 2020. The boat is now stored on the hard waiting for it's next adventure.
The refurbishment includes new engine, mast, rigging, chainplates, sails, fuel tanks, steering, electronics, stove, toilet, seacocks, through hulls, etc. All of the equipment is top of the line, and there are manuals and numerous spare parts aboard.
Her virtual age appears closer to 12 years rather than 34 years.
She has a bow thruster!
Dinghy and outboard included. The dinghy is a 10-foot hard bottom RIB and the outboard is a 9.8 hp four-stroke Nissan.
There's also an electric winch for the main halyard.
This boat is quite exceptional and appears excellent condition.
