~~PROJECT ALERT ~~
This boat is NOT ready for motion on the ocean!
Get out your work gloves or find a project manager.
Very roomy custom made sailboat with lots of headroom and originally made with beautiful wood throughout the cabins.
The hull is 1-1/8 inch mahogany, covered with fiberglass. Made with mahogany brought in from Central America.
Unfortunately, the TAHITI was left unattended for a number of years, and now, she could be considered a PROJECT boat.
We want you to know that the entire deck needs to be removed and replaced. Most is the interior wood was badly damaged by water seepage from storage and termites. There are no more termites.
A boat builder recently inspected the boat and determined that ( in his opinion ) the hull and inner keel are sound.
The boat will take $$, time, and skills to rebuild.
If you are up to the task, we can set up a showing for you by appointment.
A lot of heart and soul went into building this Tahiti. The seller has owned this TAHITI over 20 years.
The engine is a HUPEI, which is a Chinese copy of the German HARDY. The engine has an electric as well as a "hand crank" start option. The seller says the engine is good, starts and runs easily and well.
IMPORTANT: read CONDITION section of this description
The overall condition of this Tahiti is fair to poor, there is a great deal of work which needs to be done to get her back into the water.
Seller wants all prospective purchasers to understand that Formosa Termites got in the boat and pretty much destroyed the interior and decks. The interior and decks will have to be to be replaced.
A new cutlass bearing was installed a few years and has not been in the water since.
The boat was originally designed as a Ketch, but the owner changed it up to its current configuration. He says it can easily be reverted to a ketch by installing a Mizzen mast.
The boat has been on the hard for a few years, exposed to the weather. The deck has several soft spots that are believed to be repairable. The interior previously sustained termite damage......the little critters are gone, but their damage remains.
The exterior needs refurbishing. There are signs of termite infestation on the interior.
This boat should be considered a COMPLETE RESTORATION project.
Note: for purchasing engine parts, the seller reports the following:
The Engine is a Hupeh or Hubei 290 C Marine Diesel 20 hp which is a copy of a Hardy. You can try hardydiesel.com. or Hardy Solar at 15749 Lyons Valley Rd., Jamul,Ca 91935.or kmeyerco@big.net.au.
NOTE: the seller has re-classed this boat as for "parts only." There will be no water trial.
The trailer is considered to be suitable for a short haul only as it is hand-made. We suggest the buyer carefully evaluate the trailer for fitness and suitability.
PRICE is FIRM at $2995 -- "AS-IS"
