Sailing enthusiasts looking for a classic daysailer that can easily be sailed or raced single-handled consider this classic beauty 1976 Herreshoff Doughdish 12 1/2.
Designed and constructed to the specs of the original wooden model Herreshoff 12 1/2 H Class. The Doughdish is the only Herreshoff 12 1/2 reproduction in fiberglass that is universally accepted to race in the H Class.
In 1914 N.G. Herreshoff designed and built the first of several hundred 16 foot long (12 1/2' on the waterline), gaff-rigged sloops, which became the H Class, usually called Herreshoff 12 1/2 footers. These boats were originally conceived as a Buzzards Bay yacht for children, but they became a favorite of all ages and have been sold all over the world. This design has long since established itself as one of the foremost examples of yachting genius, for no other type of boat has acquired a more enduring popularity. The mere fact that, in 90 years, no significant modifications have been made in the design testifies to its perfection.
This beauty has fresh bottom paint, fiberglass monohull, beautiful wood deck trim, original bronze cast hardware, custom made oak boom & spar brackets for transport, and also a saltwater series Minn Kota electric motor.
Cockpit bench seating provides comfortable accommodations for four.
Whether you are looking for an easy to sail day cruiser or a proven H Class racer....this boat deserves serious consideration.
The owner asserts that the boat is in excellent condition. The gaff rigging and sails are in very good condition as is the lightly used electric auxiliary motor that easily stores below deck.
Gelcoat, hardware, and woodwork are all in very good condition.
