Introduced in 2003 as the 270 Signature (and called the 280 Signature in 2006-09), this stylish pocket cruiser made good on Chaparral's claim of quality construction and roomy accommodations. Unlike most other 27-footers with trailerable 8-foot, 6-inch beams, the 270/280's wide 9-foot, 6-inch beam insures a more livable interior as well as a larger cockpit.
A handsome boat on the outside, the interior of the Signature 270 sleeps six: two in the forward V-berth, two in the aft cabin, and two more when the dinette is converted. The galley is a little light on storage and counter space; the head, on the other hand, is surprisingly roomy.
Privacy curtains separate the sleeping areas from the main cabin, and the upscale decor is a blend of cherry joinery, designer fabrics, and vinyl wall coverings.
In the cockpit, the helm has a tilt wheel and dual flip-up seating.
Lacking side decks, a walk-through windshield provides access to the foredeck. There is ample seating as well. The transom door leads to a swim platform, aft shower, and transom storage locker as well.
The condition of the boat currently should be well noted, and the current price certainly reflects the work needed on this boat.
The boat was lost for a year when it was supposed to be transported from the West coast to the East coast. The boat was finally recovered, and it was found to have rainwater high in the bilge due to not having removed the plug and the boat not being covered.
The starboard engine does not currently run. It has been looked at by a marine mechanic and the fuel injectors were replaced. The compression is good and the engine turns over. The computer has been swapped out from the port computer and worked fine with the port engine. The fuel lines have been replaced and the mechanic seems to think that it must be an electrical issue from getting standing water in the bilge for so long.
The boat has some mildew buildup in the cabin and also the cockpit. This should be able to be easily cleaned up. The cockpit upholstery has been sun damaged due to sitting uncovered in the hot Galveston sun for the better part of a year but is still serviceable.
The camper back canvas is in like new condition, and all systems are believed to working at this time.
