1987 Formula Thunderbird F242 LS For Sale

Summers in Long Island New York during the mid 1980s were famous for many events with Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, and Billy Joel outdoor concerts, baseball and poker run races and Formula brand boats as local winners.

The 1987 Thunderbird was hot, and with a deep cutting hull, was perfect for the salty large waters to race and cruise. The F24 for sale originated in Long Island, NY.

In 1983 the Versatile 242 Series was on its way with the 242 LS Sport Boat in the Thunderbird/Formula line-up. Significant was the Deep Vee high performance with an off shore designed boat. In 1984 the Silent Thunder Exhaust System was patented. Seen on this boat in NC is the Silent Thunder label, see photo #7

Formula brand boats were manufactured on the East Coast before the Indiana plant was up. Thunderbird was infamous for style, large engines, classy features, and the velvet cubby cabins.

The F242 LS near Lake Norman, NC has been restored by its current owner a mechanic. He purchased the boat without an engine and outdrive and rebuilt the engine - see photos - with what any high performance boat owner would want. Currently according to seller at 20 hours (since he rebuilt it) on the Mercruiser 454 Magnum Thunderbolt Ignition power steering engine with a new carburetor.

The Mercruiser outdrive - Alpha One has a damage free prop and is clean with no pitting on the drive and free from any rust or corrosion.

This Formula features the Stainless Marine Thruhull Exhaust System.

The restoration includes new upholstery and new pedestal seats. The aft has a large sun pad. The cabin has soft grey velvet seating, opening skylights, and storage.

The hull is truly a deep vee and perfect for intercoastal and off shore choppy waters. Salt water was expected for this boat design. Currently the boat has been in fresh water.

The trailer has hydraulic brakes, new wheel cylinders and brakes, new wheel bearings and hubs and new lights.

The boat has a rebuilt engine with 20 hours since the rebuild ( according to the seller) , the seats are new, the hull is without damage, the bottom paint needs to be redone, outdrive appears good, there is some crazing on the edge of the swim platform, the cabin door has a crack in the right side of the lid on top. Interior cabin is normal condition for age of boat. Steering Wheel has aged.
