1979 Cherubini 44 Ketch Sailboat in Marblehead, Massachusetts

Stock #181057

This ketch rigged yacht is in remarkable condition with many upgrades. I could not even find a piece of teak that needed varnish, plus the Doyle in-mast furled mainsail has not even been used, new in 2019.

To understand legendary Cherubini design and construction, a bit of history may be helpful.

John Cherubini began sketching out his dream boat in the late '40's. With hIs father and brothers built Moths, Thistles and Lightnings in their yard in Burlington NJ in the 50's and 60's before he took a break from boat building and spent a period of time as a successful aeronautical engineer with Boeing.

In 1973 John Cherubini helps launch Warren Luhrs' Hunter Marine, designing the 25, 27, 30, 33, 36, with a concept hull still on the drawing board for a 54.

In 1975 his dream comes true. John finally puts the finishing touches on the drawings for a 44-foot sailboat he had been dreaming up since the late 40s. He and brother Frit begin construction of the very first Cherubini 44.

So now more about this gorgeous Cherubini 44' ketch located just north of Boston that has been cruised by the present owner from Nova Scotia through the Carribean.

The spacious cockpit is surrounded by sparkling teak combing, hull-matching green cushions and features a custom designed helm seat with its own back and arm rests.

There is a full array of electronics at the helm including Garmin 5208 touch screen chart plotter and Garmin AIS 600. Automatic pilot by Raymarine, ST8002 controller with Raymarine Tridata ST60.

There are 2 different switches to control the bow thruster.

The decks are uncluttered and easy to move over the Brightside Bristol Beige non-skid. There are two teak trimmed doghouses both with companionways leading below decks. These cabin tops are low profile allowing good line of sight from the helm.

Four steps down the companionway from the cockpit brings you to the captain's cabin with a double berth to starboard and a single quarter berth to port. Included here are the nav station and a head with stainless steel sink, vacu-flush toilet and free standing shower.

Also located here are the 120 AC and 12 volt DC power control panels along with the Xantres battery monitor, battery switches and bilge pump switches.

This aft cabin has plenty of natural light from 4 portlights and an opening deck hatch assisting ventilation. All the numerous port lights on the boat have been replaced with New Found Metals polished stainless steel cam locking ports.

The second companionway midship brings you down 5 steps to the main saloon. There is a walkway below deck connecting the main saloon to the aft cabin.

This main saloon is opulently upholstered and wonderfully trimmed in teak. The U-shaped galley is to starboard of the stairs with a Seaward 3 burner propane stove and oven gimballed for use underway. The hot and cold pressurized water faucet is with the stainless steel sink.

Built-in Sea Frost refrigeration with teak doors has plenty of space to keep food fresh.

To port of the companionway stairs is a 12 bottle wine locker below a stained glass cabinet door for proper storage of the wine glasses...nice touch.

The dropleaf table allows for easy passage through the cabin but with the leaves up allows seating comfortably for six. The teak and holly cabin sole shows no wear and shines brightly. Again, plenty of natural light from the numerous port lights and the butterfly deck hatch.

Forward is a solid bulkhead with a carved door leading to the second head and then the forward vee berth. It is warmly teak paneled and has its own deck hatch for light and ventilation.

The seller will include custom fitted sheets for all berths.

The Westerbeke deisel Model 63B was rebuilt in 2005 and again 2016. The Hurth transmission was new in 2016. There are 2 fuel tanks, one forward holding 50 gallons and another aft holding 47 gallons.

The Westerbeke is located behind a solid bulkhead door off the aft head. This walk-in compartment has a fixed padded stool in the middle of the chamber that also holds the Xantrex battery monitor, generator, hot water heater and a Parker Village Marine Tec watermaker (produces 10 GPH). All needed wrenches, sockets are conveniently mounted on the wall. There is even a paper towel holder to help keep things clean.

On to the rigging. The main mast is 56' 4-3/4" extrusion and the mizzen is 39' 11" overall. Hood designed Stoway in-mast furling is used in both. The Doyle Genoa is roller furled with a Profurl system. The Doyle mainsail is brand new 2019. The green spinnaker matches the hull.

This boat was designed for the serious cruising couple or family in mind.

The hull has a full keel with the rudder mounted on it. The flair at the bottom of the keel added the needed weight but the boat only draws 5 feet, unusual for a boat this size and makes a great Bahamas cruiser.

Dinghy included: AB model 9AL with 15 HP Yamaha

Information On Condition

The overall condition of this beautiful ketch is truly remarkable. The flawless topsides Allgrip is called Jade Mist. The topsides brightwork uses Cetol Natural teak finish that needs touchup only every third year. The teak below deck shines brightly using Captains Varnish 1015.

This boat shows true pride of ownership and is cruise ready and in the water.

The bottom was peeled in 2012 and redone with new fiberglass with vinyl resin. Last engine rebuild in 2016 with all maintenance records available.
