If bluewater sailing is your dream and your passion then this Reliant 49 may be just the boat to make that dream come true at an extremely reasonable price point. The seller's decision to sell the boat and return to Canada to deal with health issues provides you the opportunity to live out your dream.
This Glen-L designed custom built Reliant 49 ketch was designed to sail the seas. She is cold molded, seaworthy, and sea ready. What still needs to be completed is cosmetic and is probably 85% (est) done. What's left is for you to add your finishing touches.
This ketch boasts an expansive cockpit with tons of storage, bimini and dodger, a solid arch to hold the solar panels and wind generator, built-in rail seats to provide fantastic visibility, and an electronics pod with Ritchie compass, Raymarine depth/speed/wind gauges and a Simrad AP27 autopilot w/remote. Also in the cockpit are three Harken self-tailing winches.
Moving forward you'll find cable standing rigging on the main and the Mizzen masts with two additional Harken winches on the main. Some of the running riggings appear newer than others but all appear to be very serviceable.
At the bow you'll find a Lewmar windlass, a 30kg Bruce, a 30kg CQR with 135' and 220' of 3/8" BBB chain respectively, and a genoa roller furling.
You enter the cabin to a very spacious galley to port with a 3-burner stove and oven, a microwave oven, an Engel drop-in counter refrig/freezer, a large Isotherm refrigerator, and large stainless steel double well sink. There's also plenty of storage and countertop.
To starboard is a nav table and the AC and DC distribution panels. Located there as well are the Xantrex battery monitor, the WEMA tank level monitor, the bilge pump master switches, and the monitor and controls for the Magnum Energy ME2012 2000W inverter/charger. This vessel has an 800 amp hour bank of lithium-ion batteries and battery management system.
Also at the nav station is a Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS VHF radio and a Furuno NAVnet c-Map 24 mi radar/GPS/chart plotter. The Furuno head is on a swing arm that allows it to be viewed from the cockpit as well.
Moving forward is a large comfortable salon with leather settees both port and starboard and a folding table on the keel line. Above the settees is space for pilot berths that have not been built out yet.
Forward of the starboard settee is a large head with separate shower w/bench, a stainless steel sink, storage cabinets, and a composting toilet.
Forward of the port settee is a Pullman berth with a double bed and plenty of hanging storage both port and starboard.
Forward of the Pullman berth is another head that is not connected (no holding tank) and the V-berth. Again with significant storage.
The entire cabin has a roomy feeling with plenty of light provided by 11 ABI portholes.
Removing the ladder to the cockpit provides ready access to the Perkins 85 HP model 4-236 diesel engine with only 345 hours on it. The engine is connected to a Borg Warner Velvet V drive that has a SigmaDrive constant velocity joint coupling that rotates the propeller shaft without transferring engine vibration to the propeller shaft. It also resists propeller thrust going to the engine without the need of a thrust bearing and helps in self-alignment of the propeller shaft to increase the working life of the propulsion system.
This ketch comes with a new mainsail, a new mizzen sail, and a used genoa in good condition.
This Reliant 49 comes with a complete set of construction plans. Although there is some cosmetic work still to be done before calling her "complete", the care, passion, and commitment to her by her previous owners is evident even in the work that is still "in process".
Do not miss this opportunity to make this marvelous sailing vessel your own at a "bargain basement" price.
As previously mentioned, this Reliant 49 appears in very good condition and fully seaworthy. All standing rigging and running rigging appear in very good and serviceable condition. There is, however, still finish cosmetic work to be completed, primarily below.
The hull had 5 coats of Interprotect 2000 barrier coat in 2017 and 3 coats of Micron CSC antifouling paint in March of this year, but the top deck is in need of a fresh coat of non-skid paint. Also, the canvas/isinglass of the dodger and bimini need to be repaired or replaced. According to the seller, all mechanical and operational systems function as intended.
PLEASE NOTE: The owner is in the process of repairing some hull damage just forward of the keel caused by an errantly placed strap on a marina travel lift. All work is being executed under the direction of a qualified marine architect and will be completed prior to any new owner taking possession of the vessel.
