Yorktown sailboats were built in the Long Beach Ca. area by Hank McCune, who ended up building about 600 of these boats. Like most Yorktowns, this 40 footer was sold as a kit boat that came as a hull and deck, with the demand that the buyer's sweat equity be put to use to finish the boat to the buyer's person preferences.
The original owner of the boat did just that, and built the boat as he saw fit. He did all the interior wood work and finish. Having all the input as to what he wanted, he wasn't shy about adding storage compartments all over the boat, as well as building in electrical buss's that make wiring any electronics simple.
He added in the 50 hp Westerbeke diesel engine and 30 gallons fuel tank for power, while including a 2000 watt inverter and 6 volt batteries that are continuously charged by the solar panels.
2 main berths Fore and after offer comfortable sleeping arrangements while the dinette and settee in the salon both offer space for one.
For those looking to liveaboard, or take extended trips, the galley has a 3 burner stove / oven, stainless steel sink and fridge that run on 12V/ 110v or propane.
The commode adjacent to the aft berth is convenient, while the forward head also includes a standup shower. Hanging closets offer space to keep your gear stowed and looking nice.
Up in the pilothouse behind the wheel, you'll find this Yorktown is set to easily single hand under sail. The pilothouse roof is about 5'6" in height, but she can be easily steered while perched on a stool.
The electronics package includes the Signet gauges you see in the photos, VHF Radio, Raymerine C70 Fishfinder/GPS/Chartplotter and Humminbird fishfinder. The Raymarine autopilot completes the package and makes her even easier to sail.
Her sails include the Main sail, Jib and Spinnaker, to put her in motion. To keep her at anchor, she has both a fore and aft windlass and anchor rollers.
The photos give a pretty good indication of her condition. The current owner has had her about 3 years. The sails are reported to be in very good condition as her last time under full sail was summer of 2015. The engine has a new water pump for the cooling system as well as injectors that were replaced in 2015. He just replaced the fuel filters June 2016.
Update May 1, 2017. a new manual fuel pump was installed and the boat is reported to be running great., a sail cover has just been installed on the main sail.
