The Viking 44 Motor Yacht replaced the 43 Double Cabin model in the Viking fleet in 1982. Designed for fast and comfortable cruising--and showing the sleek, low-profile styling characteristics of the Viking 46 Convertible--the 44 Motor Yacht is slightly larger inside than the 43 Double Cabin and carries more fuel and water. While the floorplans are similar, the 44 has a larger main salon with the forward companionway offset to starboard.
The interior--considered quite elegant by 1980s standards--is an attractive blend of natural teak woodwork, designer fabrics and plush furnishings. Topside, there's plenty of space on the full-width aft deck for entertaining, and the flybridge is arranged with guest seating forward of the helm console. (Note that the bridge profile was updated in 1989.)
Additional features include wide side decks, an optional hardtop and arch, and steel engine mounts--a Viking trademark.
On the downside, the engine room is a tight fit. A good running boat with optional 485hp 6-71s, the Viking 44 MY will cruise at a fast 24 knots and turn 28+ knots wide open.
This Viking 44 Motoryacht is powered by twin Detroit 6-71 TI rated at 485 hp each. These motors have a little over 1200 hours, always serviced yearly and run strong.
The current owner has 40 years experience as a mechanic and has kept all maintenance up to standards. Boat cruises 18 knots with an estimated fuel consumption of 30 gph.
Most recent updates include two rebuilt starter motors, rebuilt raw water pumps, new hoses, heat exchangers cleaned and new batteries.
The overall condition of the boat is good to excellent, on a one to ten scale, it would probably be rated 7 to 8, taking into consideration the boat's age, minor chips or cracks, and fiberglass fading. Nothing that impedes on the structure or strength and nothing that can't be repaired with a little TLC if it hasn't been done already.
There has never been any damage to the hull with the exception of minor scrapes which have been repaired. The hull shows well, and the gel coat is not faded or oxidized.
The super structure is clean, no damage, no water leaks, everything is intact. The interior is spotless and retains its original floor plan. No damage to any of the teak wood work, all windows and ports are in working order, all hatches intact and operational. All exterior canvas and glass are in good condition.
Systems on the boat include an 8.5 kw Westerbeke genset with approx. 800 hrs., Two zone heat/ac, new refrigerator, new bilge pumps, new shower sumps, flat screen tv in aft cabin, holding tank, gps, am/fm stereo, 2 vhf radios, older (original) Furno radar, windlass which was just rebuilt, forward dinghy David with 800 lb. lifting capacity, 50 amp electric with transom installed cable master, new trim tabs, refurbished propellers, new cutlass bearings , new propellor shaft mid struts
Upgrades include custom teak woodwork complete by a ship's master carpenter in the main salon and dinette area, new carpet in the forward and aft staterooms, a new fresh water head is being installed in the aft head.
The only thing "not" working on the boat is the washing machine which were never used and a blower motor on the forward stateroom ac unit which will be repaired
