This is a beautiful example of the Shields that was first introduced over 50 years ago when Cornelius Shields commissioned a one-design racing sailboat from Olin Stephens of the famous design duo, Sparkman & Stephens. The resulting design was reportedly described by Stephens himself as having lines that were "almost too sweet." The design features a full keel with 3000 pounds of lead ballast.
This boat has been well maintained, and is in fabulous condition. It has been stored under cover, and rarely used. Everything you will want to start sailing and racing is ready to go. If you want to spend the day sailing on your own, it sails very well single handed, and is designed to race with a crew of four.
It is equipped with two main sails (one in excellent condition), one head sail in good condition, a boom vang, new lazy jacks, Cunningham rigging, a spinnaker topping lift and down haul, adjustable backstays, spinnaker sheets, mooring lines, and bumpers. There is also a 3 HP electric outboard kicker for departure and your return to port.
The wood deck and bright work is keenly varnished, and the hull is shiny and bright.
The boat spent most of its life in fresh water, only spending 3 months in salt water, during one summer. There is virtually no visible sign of corrosion.
60-day Sea Tow membership* comes standard with your boat purchase!
