This Catalina 25 is a good racer/cruiser for inland and coastal waters. available on the used market at very affordable prices. When I photographed the vessel it was apparent the hull was very shiny with beaded water droplets on it. Obviously it had been recently buffed and waxed. Going below I found the galley to the port side and two sofa port and starboard. There was a single berth towards the starboard stern. next to that berth was a hatch allowing engine access. By the way the engine was very clean and well kept and started right up and ran smoothly and quietly.
Designed by Frank Butler of Catalina Yachts in Hollywood, CA, over 6,000 Catalina 25's were built from 1976 through 1990, and all in the U.S. She is designed as an inland and coastal racer/cruiser within budgetary reach of any American. She is well suited to her purpose in terms of design and build quality although some owners have sailed their Catalina 25,s through the Caribbean (like this fellow), to South America, and even to Hawaii. The Catalina 25 was one of the most successful and longest running production boats ever built, and continues to have a strong following and interest. The standard rig with swing keel configuration is the most popular.
The Catalina 25 is a masthead sloop with a modern but conservative design, resulting in a boat that continues to have a relatively modern appearance. She has a modern canoe under-body and broad transom. With a waterline length of 22'2", her length on deck to waterline ratio is equally modern. Other design elements include a traditional sheer line, a slightly raked bow, a plumb stem with stern hung rudder, and the standard well-known Catalina cabin trunk and port configuration.
This sailboat benefits from a large user base, active owner's forum, and easy availability of spare parts.
The seller has taken good care of this Catalina 25. I found the cabin to be very clean and fresh smelling. I was impressed by the condition of the deck which needs no attention and was free of any stress crack or soft spot.
The only thing on-board in need of repair was the cracked skylight that the sell er plans to repair before the end of may 2018.
The vessel just had a new bottom job in 2017. The sides of the hull were buffed and waxed in 2017.
The vessel is kept at a mooring ball on the Hudson River and is ready to sail.
