The Catalina 38 is based on the Yankee 38 and like the Yankee 38, the Catalina 38 has good speed and great balance as did most S&S designs.
The design of the Catalina 38 was originally developed by Catalina Yachts for a 1980 design competition sponsored by the Long Beach (New York) Yacht Club that was seeking a replacement for the aging Cal 40 for the one-design Congressional Cup Race. Beautiful and fast, the IOR influenced design of the Catalina 38 was selected.
In essence, what you get in the Catalina 38 is a fast performance boat whose interior was designed for cruising - the perfect combination.
Inside the Catalina 38, you have a forward v-berth cabin, an enclosed head, a dinette that converts to a berth, a settee, a nav station, a galley and a quarterberth, which is plenty for a family or a offshore crew to sleep and eat comfortably.
This Catalina 38 was professionally cleaned above and below the water line in May 2019. There are a few small items to take care of like the bottom life line connection on the starboard side gateway, but in general, this Catalina 38 is beautiful and appears in really good condition.
The exterior cushions are in poor condition, but the interior cushions are in great condition. Last bottom painted in August 2015.
