1969 Columbia 36 Sloop Sailboat in Honolulu, Hawaii

Stock #171590

PRICED TO SELL - Recently valued at $7,500 - Won't Last Long!!! Please see FULL Information on Condition and Liveaboard Potential Below (Click on SEE MORE) - Surveyed Mid-July 2019.

This strong, classic 1969 Columbia 36 Sloop will make a perfect and affordable starter boat, liveaboard, floating condo or inter-island cruiser, especially for anyone looking to own their first sailboat or start living on the water. This is a sturdy sailboat, perfect for Hawaiian swells and weekend trips. She could also be kitted out for blue water passages.

The original 22HP Albin diesel is currently not running. It is believed to need a new heat exchanger. The seller does not have time to source or install this part or any other needed parts. This could also be an ideal opportunity to install a brand new engine or convert to electric! It is probably not advisable to have this engine re-built as it is obsolete and is a bit tricky to find replacement parts for. This has been taken into consideration in the asking price!

Accommodation consists of a forward V-berth, a couch/bed on the starboard side and a horseshoe dinette to port which converts into a double berth. All cushions were recently replaced with brand new foam and marine vinyl and look very nice. There are two aft single berths as well which are currently used for storage.

The small galley is fully functional with a sink, microwave, crock pot, and storage shelves. There is a mini-fridge on the boat as well. The galley configuration was re-done by the original owner and much of it is 'diy' and could benefit from more quality finishing. There is lots of opportunity to turn this very solid and desirable Columbia into a showpiece!

The head and sink are both fully functioning. The head/shower area is in a walk-through to the forward V-berth to port with custom built-in storage to starboard. Currently, there are no doors between the salon/head/V-berth. These will need to be replaced.

Overall, she is very clean with extended cockpit/aft deck space for a boat this size due to a sizeable lazarette.

Sail Inventory:

-- 2 Jibs
-- Mainsail (currently on)
-- New Mainsail (never used)
-- Jib Furler set-up w/ new sail (never installed)

Navigation/Electronics/Misc.:

-- Lowrance HDS 7 GPS/Depth Sound/Fishfinder (Currently Not Powering Up)
-- VHF Radio
-- CD/AM/FM Radio
-- Navigation Lights
-- 5 x 25 Watt Solar Panels (Total of 125 watts)
-- 3000w Power Inverter
-- Assorted Power and Hand Tools

There is a 30-gallon fuel tank on the port side.

The hour meter is no longer functioning and there is no estimate of engine hours.

Headroom is around 6'.

Information On Condition

This vessel was surveyed on July 17th, 2019 for a buyer who decided a liveaboard was not a good fit for them. They also did not want to take on the engine repair/replacement.

The vessel was found to be properly designed, well-constructed, in sound condition, and is fit for her intended route and service in Hawaiian waters.

The vessel was valued at $7,500 in it's current condition and location.

Findings from the survey include:

~ The hull above the boot stripe was in fair condition with the normal scuff marks.
~ There was no evidence of hard collisions or previous repairs.
~ The decks have the original factory molded nonskid pattern and are in fair condition.
~ There were no soft spots or delamination found.
~ There were no deck leaks noted on the interior overhead.
~ The hull to deck appeared intact and without evidence of movement.
~ The internal hull and structures were found in good condition and there no broken or cracked structural members or bulkheads were detected.
~ The frame and bulkhead tabbing was solidly connected to the hull.
~ Engine stringers and fuel tank support structures were solidly attached and in good condition.

Recommendations from the survey were:

-- Consult with a qualified marine diesel mechanic to troubleshoot and repair the propulsion engine and then test for proper operation.

-- Provide lubrication and servicing for mast and cockpit winches.

-- Fill fuel tank carefully while inspecting for leaks.

-- Replace float switch on 12v DC submersible bilge pump, which is inoperable.

-- Replace freshwater tank, pressure pump, and related plumbing components; Rebuild pump on commode which is leaking.

-- Provide a GFCI protected plug receptacle for the galley plug outlet.

-- Replace gate valves for cockpit drain thru-hull fittings at next haul out.

-- Repair the GPS unit which does not power up.

-- Replace broken teak around companionway sliding hatch and lee boards.

THE SURVEY IS NOT THE PROPERTY OF POP YACHTS SO CANNOT BE SHARED.
___________________________________________________________________________

Due to the engine not working, no haul-out survey or water trial are available. This has been taken into consideration in the reduced asking price.

Overall, this is a very clean and spacious boat with solid bones. This boat was built when they built them strong and feels bulletproof! The last haul-out and bottom job were over four years ago, and she is due for a new one, although the bottom is cleaned every month and there are no signs of significant accumulating on the bottom.

Cosmetic considerations:

-- There is no fresh water holding tank but plenty of space to install one.
-- The doors between the salon, head, and V-berth will need to be replaced.
-- There is also currently no shower head.
-- Could benefit from some cosmetic work including bright work and updated deck paint

The boat is currently moored in a liveaboard slip in Sand Island. The marina currently has openings so the slip is most likely "assumable" with an approved application. The marina provides bathroom and shower facilities, WIFI, water, electric, a fuel dock, and dry dock, 24-hour security, and gated parking. This is one of the safest and most desirable marinas on Oahu. Tenants also get a discount for dry dock services and haul-outs.

At this marina, liveaboard is +/- $850/month, which is very reasonable for Hawaii!
