1973 Columbia 57 Sloop Sailboat in Honolulu, Hawaii

Stock #147349

What is most impressive about this 1973 Columbia 57 is her size and spaciousness - both above and below deck.

If you've ever dreamed of taking a boat back to the studs and re-designing one exactly as you'd like, this is it! This is a handyman's dream!

With some vision and hard work, this beauty could be transformed into one of the most desirable boats in the islands. This project boat is priced to sell and ready for a new owner to take over the renovations.

BUC ValuPro for this boat:
Poor Condition: $52,500-$57,700
Fair Condition: $65,600-$72,100
Average Condition: $77,200-$84,800
Above Average Condition: $87,200-$95,800

The owner estimates it will take $10k to cover the basic needs and up to $40k to fully restore her.

The engine is currently not operational. It requires an oil filter, which is being shipped from the mainland. Once installed, the engine cannot be started or controlled from the helm. Owner recommends replacing the engine completely.

Below deck, the 'bare bones/open plan' configuration consists of a spacious aft cabin, galley to starboard, dinette with berth conversion, two single bunks to port of the dinette, a 4-berth bunk room forward of the head and hanging locker and a V-berth forward of the bunk room.

In this current configuration, the sleeping capacity is 12. There is also room for a small cabin or bunk room opposite the galley to port, forward of the aft cabin, which is currently open and being used to house a deep freezer.

It would be up to a new owner to keep this current configuration or to re-design it to suit your needs.

With a 40,000 lb displacement with 22,000 lbs of lead, a fully encapsulated keel and solid fiberglass hull, she has solid bones and capable of taking on Hawaiian swells as well as open water conditions. The lead ballast exceeds 50% of the displacement value, making her exceptionally stable and capable of a much taller rig.

She has a pedigree of completing at least four Transpacs and likely took her class in at least two. Independent race records document this hull at exceeding 14 knots despite her being built as a comfortable and stable distance cruiser.

She served as a charter boat throughout the 80's, including working with Sea Scouts for several years.

The current owner is an engineer who originally bought the boat to convert to a custom design. Work commitments have taken him off the island and it's not possible for him to complete the project at this time. The seller would be happy to share these plans with a new owner and consult on the ideas.

Hundreds of hours have been spent going through every inch of this boat to address any concerns. In doing this, the transmission has been rebuilt and all of the bilge pumps and wet exhaust lines replaced.

The boat is rough but the majority of the hardware is original quality and functional.

The current slip will most likely be available but others may be in the same marina. Slip fees are currently $800/month. Otherwise it will need to be moved to another marina.

Information On Condition

This boat is being sold "as is." It is due for a haul-out and complete overhaul and this has been taken into consideration in the asking price.

The engine is currently not operational. It requires an oil filter, which is being shipped from the mainland. Once installed, the engine cannot be started or controlled from the helm. Owner recommends replacing the engine completely.

There are few creature comforts and most everything would need to be replaced to get this boat back up to 'cruiser' standards.

The thru-hulls will need to be addressed as several were orphaned by the previous owners when interior systems were removed.

Currently, there has been wood re-enforcement on the aft deck to accommodate water barrels for a voyage back to the mainland.

This plan has been abandoned, the barrels are empty, and the deck below the reinforcement is in the same condition as the rest of the deck. No soft spots were noticeable anywhere on the deck.

Seller has receipts from all purchases over the last year, amounting to $10,000.
