We're sorry to see this one go but happy to say that she has been sold.
Designed by the legendary Charles Morgan, the Com-Pac 33 is made to be an excellent cruiser and comfortable shoal keel masthead rigged sloop.
This particular vessel was built as Hull #1 of the Com-Pac 33, constructed with every option available at the time and was the factory demonstrator and marketing vessel, sailed extensively by Charley Morgan to validate the design and was raced a few times for marketing purposes. An example of the extra options on the boat is the freshwater washdown with a transom shower for hosing off before coming back into the boat after a swim.
Mr. Morgan liked the boat so well and had such a good time sailing her that he left a cassette tape of Irish drinking songs aboard with strict instructions for all future owners that the tape was to never leave the vessel.
The vessel was re-powered a few years ago with a Mitsubishi S3L2 27hp diesel motor replacing the Atomic that came on the boat. Exact details unknown. The seller estimates there are 1000 hours on the engine. For electrical systems, the boat carries three batteries, two house and one starting. There is a 1,800 Watt inverter and 30amp shore power. The boat is solar/wind generation ready. It had a wind generator until Hurricane Irma in 2017. The boat weathered Irma just fine, but the wind generator did not.
Approaching the vessel you get a great sense of volume and strength in this vessel. Built for comfort rather than speed, she is wide of beam with a high raised cabin and plenty of deck space.
The aft cockpit is a standard affair with a lazarette storage under the port bench and mechanical access space under the starboard bench. The helm is a wheel with access to the emergency tiller bolt aft beneath an access hatch. The vessel is rigged for single-handed sailing.
Out on deck, you have easy access to all lines and running gear. The standing rigging is original to the boat with space yet remaining in the turnbuckles to tighten it in the future. The stainless cables are still shining and show no obvious signs of corrosion. The running rigging has been replaced as needed over the years and is largely due for replacement. The mainsail is original to the boat and is reported to be in usable condition. The foresail is a 140% heavy-weight Genoa that moves the boat through the water very efficiently. It was purchased by the current seller a few years ago. It is on a roller furling. On deck are both a whisker pole and a spinnaker pole, though the spinnaker flew away in the wind a long time ago.
The deck is painted with tan non-skid paint, which is in good condition, making for a safe, slip-free deck. The Bomar skylight hatches all are in good condition with no apparent leaks. The bow pulpit features two different anchors - one large fluke and one claw - giving you options which to use for different bottom types. They are attached to the boat with a combination of rode and chain.
Down below is a very roomy cabin perfect for tall sailors with 6'8" of headroom down the middle. Aft are a full head with stand-up shower and a quarter berth that comfortably sleeps two. The engine is accessed from behind the companionway steps with a glass-front hatch that allows you to look into the engine room before opening to provide an easy way to eyeball the motor.
The galley features an alcohol burning two-burner stove and oven, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, and double sink. Starboard of the galley is the navigation station and AC/DC electrical controls for the vessel. A VHF radio and autohelm controls are at the nav station.
The salon has ample comfortable seating for at least 6 with a fold-up dinette. The dinette couch converts into a double or queen berth that the sellers report being the most comfortable place on the boat to sleep. Forward is the full V-berth with hanging locker and drawers. If you've been counting, this 33-foot long lady can comfortably sleep up to six adults.
Keeping everyone on the boat entertained is a sound system with a 350 Watt pre-amp connected to a pair of fantastic speakers in the cabin. There can be speakers out in the cockpit, but the seller has opted to remove them and keep his Irish drinking songs to himself. The radio has an Aux input perfect for plugging in a phone or computer. The sellers will often prop up a 17" laptop and plug it into the stereo system to have a near surround-sound movie-watching experience in the salon.
Due to fighting an illness in the last few years, the seller has not been able to sail or be on the boat as much as he would have liked. The vessel appears sound, the motor chugs right along, and all of the accessories are reported to work. Like any sailboat over a certain age, there is a constant punch-list of items that need to be addressed, none of them appear critical to operation or safety.
Among that punch list, there are some very minor leaks around some of the port hole windows and around the mast that need to be addressed. The electronics are past their service life and are due for replacement. The amp meter on the AC panel quit a while back and the seller has struggled to find a replacement that will fit the space.
The dodger canvas was lost in Hurricane Irma but the dodger frame is in good condition and just needs new canvas.
