1980 Ericson 38 Sloop Sailboat in Chula Vista, California

Stock #144617

Introduced in 1980, the Ericson 38 was designed by the incomparable Bruce King whose talent for drawing beautiful boats of near-perfect proportions.

For the most part, the hull of the Ericson 38 is constructed of a solid composite of fiberglass and resin although some core material is used in some flat sections above the waterline to add stiffness without excessive weight.

The Ericson 38 utilizes an elaborate system of high strength fiberglass fabric and high-density foam to form a structural grid of transverse floors and longitudinal stringers.

ADDITIONAL INFO FROM SELLER
Hull Transom is the "reverse" style with swim ladder. But its purpose is for speed and strength of stern stay. A limited Number of Ericson 38s have this feature.

The engine throttle and transmission shift linkage are mounted directly on the steering wheel pedestal. Compass and fathometer readout and fathometer alarm are also pedestal mounted.

Compass and all gauges are lighted. Knot meter and relative wind direction gauges are installed to be visible to Helmsman and cockpit crew.

Information On Condition

This is the tall rig version of the Ericson 38 with heavy gauge rigging, 55 foot mast has tabernacle configuration.

This vessel presents in good condition for her age. Her owner reports she is a great sailing boat, with a very roomy interior. No time to sail the boat results in her being for sale. Pathfinder Diesel (Volkswagon Rabbit wide RPM Range Marine Diesel) is not running &requires rebuild.

Priced to sell quickly as is without the engine operational. New Pathfinder engine is $5,000. But this is not a normal Pathfinder. It has the heavy duty shaft driven water pump and extra duty heat exchanger. Plus seller added on a special seawater transparent filter mounted under the sink in the galley. Not really a necessity on the west coast, but good security for when there is a high volume shaft driven water pump installed.

Seller did not spare expenses as evidenced by how he added radar to a racer/cruiser with a tabernacle configuration. A separate radar mast is installed to isolate the setup, keeping it away from halyards, spinnaker pole activity and foresail sheets, and other rigging during mast lowering/raising.

Seller will replace the clear plastic in the dodger before a buyer takes delivery.

Complete re-rig while also upgrading to modern mast-mounted quick locking halyard fasteners preliminary to redundant standard cleating.

Seller paid $24k to have the rigging, mast, boom & spreaders completely refurbished and modernized. Sails are professionally cleaned and refurbished.
