1968 Islander 37 Sloop Sailboat in Marco Island, Florida

Stock #169951

Designed by Bruce King and built from 1966 to 1972, the Islander 37 is a world-renowned racing sloop known for her speed and excellent handling. Built in an era before foam or balsa cored hulls, this one is solid fiberglass, tough as nails, and made for speed and efficiency.

The boat is the grand dame of her marina, known by everyone there for her long service to her owner who passed away in Spring 2018. He took immaculate care of her over the years, including having had the boat hauled and bottom painted in early 2018 and we're told an updated Westerbeke/Universal M-25 diesel motor and transmission installed in anticipation of returning to sailing.

She comes with a large sail inventory. The mainsail is approximately 600sqft. There is a roller furling jib, she comes with a spinnaker and whisker pole, and more sails that are in their bags in the cabin. One of the sails appears to be unused in its original packaging.

Everything in the boat goes with the boat, including life jackets, tools, parts, a spare anchor and lines, documentation, and more.

Information On Condition

The vessel has spent the last few years sitting instead of sailing. Mechanically she appears to be in great condition, and we're told zero time on motor and transmission. The boat has fairly modern electronics, good condition sails including one still in the original packaging. The rigging appears in good condition.

Time in the sun has taken its toll on the deck and teak. She's in need of a good varnish job and deck paint. The gold leaf stripe around the hull is in need of refreshing and the hull above the water line could use fresh paint.

The cabin needs to be thoroughly cleaned out and the wood revarnished but is otherwise in good and serviceable condition.

The hull has not been cleaned since the owner passed away, so there is substantial growth that will require pressure washing to remove.

With a bit of TLC, this boat can easily be returned to its former glory and start beating the sails off of the competition again.

The motor and transmission were replaced in early 2018. The boat was hauled and bottom painted in late 2017 or early 2018.
