This Lavranos 36 was built In Cape Town South Africa by the Golnix Yard. It was a small semi-custom production run of approximately 50 boats. Designed by Angelo Lavranos, a well-respected Naval Architect who worked for Sparkman and Stevens and later Bruce Farr. The boat was designed and built for offshore racing and cruising and won its class in several Cape Town to Uruguay races with the return journey via the Southern ocean.
The hull and deck are solid glass with fiberglass over foam reinforcing grid making it extremely strong and impervious to rot. The hull to deck joint is an inward flange thru-bolted and completely glassed on the inside. All bulkheads are glassed to the hull and deck as are all furnishings. The interior was completed by a professional shipwright who worked on several other L36s. The boat is currently rigged as a sloop but was originally rigged as a cutter and could be converted back.
The current owner purchased the boat from the original owner 2 years ago. He ran a boatyard at a marina in Solomons, Maryland that his brother owned. He sailed the boat to the US in 1984. The current owner, a 100 ton USCG Captain, cruised the Chesapeake for a few months before sailing to Florida and living aboard in St. Augustine.
The engine is a naturally aspirated VolvoPenta 2000 Diesel series (2003) with an estimated 800 hours. The saildrive transmission has no external horizontal output shaft. The saildrive reduces propeller walk, reduces vibration, and is more efficient.
Sails include a new Main, a fair Genoa, a fair Spinnaker, and a fair Trysail. There is also a Furlex roller furler, Lewmar 44 self-tailing primary winches, and a Raymarine Wheel Pilot.
Electrical includes 2x100w flexible Solar Panels,
20amp PWM charge controller, 3x100ah AGM Batteries, and a 70ah dual-purpose starter battery. There is also a 1000w inverter.
Below there is a Natures Head composting toilet and an
Eno 3 burner gimballed stove with oven.
According to the seller, all mechanical and operational systems function as intended. The standing rigging is 5 years old, and the hull was professionally painted and gel coated in 2016. New bottom paint was recently applied.
