1982 Watkins 27 Sloop in Port Charlotte, Florida

Stock #296089

When introduced the manufacturer's slogan was "The Watkins 27 thinks she's a 30' sloop." With pedestal steering in the cockpit, shore power, a pressurized water system, a full 6'2" of standing room in the cabin, large comfortable berths, and plenty of room for storage it's easy to see why this is not just marketing fluff.

This is a solidly built boat with a broad 10-foot beam and 23.8' L.W.L. At 7.500 lbs and a ballast ratio of 46%, the Watkins 27 is a sure handler designed to cruise for days in comfort. The Watkins 27 just feels big and safe. Also, with a 3'8" shoal draft this boat can go places where most other bluewater capable sailboats just can't go

The owner completed several major maintenance projects in early 2022 designed to ensure the reliability, performance, and convenience of the vessel.

Bottom Paint - The bottom was sanded and painted with multiple barrier coats and multiple coats of anti-fouling paint. Interlux paint was used. The owner has the bottom cleaned monthly by a service.

Dinghy Davits / Solar Panels - The WM PRU-3 dinghy and 3.3 HP Mercury outboard, in very good condition, are included in the sale. On top of the davits are two 100-watt solar panels with separate controllers.

Also included:

~ Spare Danforth anchor and rode
~ Spare bilge pump
~ Emergency tiller
~ 50 foot shore power cable
~ Four (4) winch handles

The boat is set up for short-handed sailing. The dinghy is easy to launch. The cockpit is comfortable and well shaded by the Bimini. This Watkins 27 is a versatile boat and offers a lot of value in a 27-foot sloop.

Dinghy included: 2017 WM PRU-3 Dinghy

Information On Condition

The owner reports: the standing rigging, running rigging and mast all in good condition. The main sail is serviceable but would need to be replaced at some point. The jib was damaged in a storm and needs to be replaced. The 150% genoa is reported to be in good condition as it has not seen as much use. The lifelines need to be tightened and/or replaced.

The fuel tank has light sediment which is being caught by the fuel filter. Two window hatches need to be replaced. The following are not operational:

▪ Hours meter on engine
▪ Tachometer
▪ Inverter
▪ (1) A/C Outlet
▪ Stereo
▪ Autopilot

The owner recently completed a trip to the Keys and Dry Tortugas and reported that all systems operated as expected and the boat performed very well.

He has done a complete bottom job - sanding, barrier coats, and ablative paint coats. He installed a dinghy davit and two 100-watt solar panels. He has replaced 4 of 6 window hatches.
