02/18/16 Update from seller: "As for repairs, cosmetics, and topside and interior woodworking. Mechanical, dewinterizing, installing starboard engine water pump with new impellars on each pump, servicing the generator engine and addressing a fuel leak (this was stated by the marina, it ran fine last summer, no problem). The a/c unit in the salon needs freon, and the unit topside in the pilothouse is not operational (is not connected), the hull seams will need to be sealed before launching. Last time the exterior was painted 2012 (as shown in the slip photo). The transom has only two coats of varnish and no name (easy for a new owner to rename).

I can't think of too much, it's an old wood boat that needs continual paint and service. It may be possible to trailer it over the road with the spotlights and the mast removed. The weight is about #55,000, 15-3 beam. The deck has leaks due to hauling and launching over the years with a travel lift."

Grand Banks is a very well known and respected brand - mainly for intelligent design, beautiful looks, fine fit and finish and great economical power packages! Seller just does not have the time to use it anymore...

The power package features twin Ford Lehman 120HP engines with Borg Warner Velvet drives. This is perfect for a very economical cruise! She is FRESH WATER COOLED!

She also features AC w/ heat, an Onan 7.5KW generator, 1800w inverter, shore power w/ cords and a host of other options!

Seller: I have electrical schematics for the entire boat 120 ac, and 12vdc. Also, I have manuals for just about everything on the boat, engine, generator, inverter, etc

Cruises 6-9 knots depending on currents, 7.5-8 knots in slack (calm). Usually, I'd cruise about 1600 rpm (the speeds shown) Any more than that you're wasting fuel, although the engines are rated to 2400 rpm, it is a heavy boat. It rides like sitting on the livingroom couch, and the aft deck is always stable even in rough seas. .

Information On Condition

The boat is a 1972 and has some items that will need to be addressed and this is reflected in the asking price. This includes the fridge/freezer, shower and washdown according to the seller...

Seller notes:

According to American Diesel, who keeps records on all Ford Lehman motors, the serial numbers I provided them indicate both engines are original. All work I've done on them are; valves reseated on both engines including new head gaskets, and rebuilt fuel injectors I installed on the port engine. Other mechanical repairs: replace engine oil cooler on the port engine, replace the transmission cooler on the starboard engine, and replace the raw water engine cooling pump on the starboard engine. Both starter motors have been rebuilt, and both alternators have been checked and verified OK......all work done by the same Wengers Electric of southern MD. Both engines start with ease, with only a hint of smoke for the first minute. The port engine will sometimes require priming after it sets for a prolonged period.

Woodworking: I just replaced a butt block about midship on the port side, several hull boards have been replaced at and just above the waterline on the port side, all seams have been reefed and recaulked in the past 10 years. As for the house, well, there has been significant rot over the past 40 years and is an ongoing project to repair, remove decay, and replace roof, walls and bulwarks. Teak decking is sound, but to age and hauling the boat, the deck seams leak. The hull is solid and the transom is tight. I have not replaced the name on the transom..it has been sanded and has 2 coats of Captains varnish. The swim platform was destroyed in Sandy, and I have replaced it with a more solid mahogany platform.

The boat has been through 4 hurricanes, one in the yard and three in the water, all without damage other than some surface scratches and the swim platform.

It's not cherry, or Bristol by any stretch of the imagination, but for anyone who has time, money, and patience to continue the renovation, it would be a great buy.

I don't know what else to say, it's solid, functional, reliable, and I'm not afraid of cruising it in rough bay waters. It needs someone to keep it from ending in the boneyard.
