Seller Notes:

***Please let anyone who would like to come look at the boat that we would love to have them actually stay on the boat for a few days when they come, wheelchair or not. Ketchikan had wheelchair ramp taxis available, and Alaska Airlines is very competent and friendly about handling folks and their wheelchairs.***

Have been independently living aboard her for the last eight years. I use a power wheelchair due to a degenerative disease. I am no longer able to live aboard independently and have moved ashore.

Wide beam, open layout, set-up to live aboard in comfort (laundry, stove, oven, hydronic furnace, AC, dishwasher), handicap accessibility--including an elevator up to the pilothouse and accessible shower and toilet...

**The lift is built around the hydraulic ram from a dump truck. A 12v motor runs the hydraulic pump. It's quite ingenious actually. Not exactly sure what the capacity would be, but considering the origin of the equipment, I imagine it would be difficult to exceed the capacity. There are 2 separate ladders by which one may reach the upper level of the boat. One is inside, mid-ship, right near the lift and the other is outside, aft. **

Seller:

The original owner ordered detailed engineering for the modification of the successful Monk design
(Sunnfjord has pulled 46 commercial hulls, two other yachts and a charter boat from the mold) and called for stability tests early in sea trials. Both are unusual in recreational boat production.
Because of the hull's known roll characteristics, Naiad active fin stabilizers were added and the builder put 5,200 pounds of lead in the keel to
provide a stable ride. To enhance safety at sea, the hull has three watertight bulkheads again, unusual features in a pleasure boat. "I wanted a boat that is seaworthy," the original owner explained. "That was the first thing." The vessel
displaces 55,640 pounds, which puts her in the large class when compared to other yachts of the same size. "I like heftiness," the original owner
said. "I told my wife I didn't want a toy, I wanted a boat. "I believe this boat will go anywhere any other boat will go."

The naval architect said of the boat,
"It is a very seaworthy hull and it is seakindly. It is as tough as any other boat out there. It has lots of freeboard and stability with the Naiads and that goes with the mission of being seakindly for a wheelchair user." The weight of the vessel was watched
carefully. When testing was complete, the vessel met stability criterion for a fishing boat of 79 feet. "We were prepared to put more ballast in, but the center of gravity was adequate and no added ballast was needed," the naval architect explained.

The Passagemaker article describes the
boat as a "coastal cruiser", declaring "thanks to the talented crew at Sunnfjord, his
designers, architects and engineers, the original owner has produced a motor yacht suitable for cruising the Inside Passage and the West Coast.
With her large and low windows, the vessel would be vulnerable to storm damage in an ocean crossing, even though the safety glass is 3/8" thick. Additionally, without installation of additional fuel capacity she doesn't have the range for a long, nonstop trip.
However, his twin goals - a safe and seaworthy yacht that is comfortable for coastal cruising and whose spaces are workable for a wheelchair user have been met."

The specifications from The Passagemaker
article are:

Length Overall 47'

Length at Waterline 41'

Beam
(maximum) 16'

Beam (at waterline) 14' 4"

Draft (fully loaded) 5' 8"

Displacement 55,640 pounds

Ballast 5,200 pounds

Main Engine Cat 3208NA (210 hp)

Get Home Yanmar 40 hp

Cruising Speed 8 knots

Maximum Speed 9.25 knots

Genset Northern Lights 12.5 kW

Fuel Capacity 1,060 U.S. gallons (two tanks)

Water Capacity 500 U.S. gallons

Holding Tank 100 gallons

& Stability Data

Displacement/Length Ratio 360

Longitudinal Center of Buoyancy (LCB) 50.6 % aft

Longitudinal Center of Flotation (LCF) 55.9% aft

Lbs/Inch Immersion 2,420 lbs/in

Moment to Trim One Inch 6,180 ft-lbs

You can judge for yourself how seaworthy the boat is. The engine compartment has ample space for a water maker. It is a full displacement hull that is indeed hourglass shaped.

I cannot tell you much about the A/C--we've never used it or even turned it on. I can tell you that all of the components are there, they appear in pristine condition and the original.

Information On Condition

Maintenance records available. The boat is in excellent shape.

Bottom done in Spring of 2016. The bottom is in great shape.

Only known issues: The horn functions intermittently. The searchlight turns on and off, but the remote directional control is not working.

The main salon (extending for the first 6-8 feet inside the rear door) is recently carpeted with commercial, low pile carpet squares. The rest of the lower level has 2-3 year old laminate (click together) flooring in a light wood grain. The upper level has the original green carpet.

The boat cruises at 7.5 knots burning 4.2 gallons/hr. That works out to a range of 1800 nautical miles allowing for a 10% reserve in the 2 tanks that hold 550 gallons each.

I am 6' 1" and 300lbs. I can't stand in the space below decks, but I can get to every nook and cranny by "elephant walking" and then I have room to sit wherever I'm working. The space is thoughtfully laid out and ever part of the mechanical systems is easily accessible.

If I had NO need to accommodate someone in a wheelchair, the only change I MIGHT envision would be to raise the counters I the galley an in the main deck head to standard height--they were built at a lower height (somewhere between 30 and 32 inches) for a wheelchair user. Standard height is 36". There is nothing about that project that would change the structural integrity of the boat. The scope of the job would be minimal. Other than that adjustment, I don't foresee anything that would need to be changed for able bodied folks to fully enjoy all the amenities of the boat. I've become accustomed to the lower counters and would not go to the time and expense of raising them.
