This boat is a design based on the Diesel Duck and is ideal for long-range cruising. WIth her all steel construction, this boat can take you Artic and back again safely. Imagine the places you can go with 2500 gallons of diesel onboard in her integral fuel tanks which the next buyer will have to provide, since she has only 100 gallons of fuel in her smaller tank.
She was originally custom built for the University of Alabama as a research vessel to sail to the Indian Ocean. She was designed as a very safe vessel, 5 watertight compartments.
Photos 1-47 are from September 30, 2017.
Her deck gear feature a "Genuine Rocna" 55 Lb anchor with chain and power windless, assorted capstans, spinnakers, and cleats, and Harken MKIII jib reefing and furling systems to handle her sails and associated rigging.
The vessel is powered by a Detroit Diesel Allison Series 53, 110 HP, four-cylinder diesel engine that will propel her to 12 knots when not under sail. The boat is also equipped with a Northern Lights generator.
Her accommodations include a full large galley with an abundance of storage space, a full-sized refrigerator-freezer, a full sized propane stove with oven and a separate dining table with chairs.
The forward stateroom has a separate head and aft stateroom has an adjacent shower.
The pilot house is air-conditioned and fully equipped with electronics including Garmin GPS/plotter, two marine radios, Humminbird fish finder, Raytheon radar, Danforth compass, Sitex SP-80 autopilot. The pilothouse features a stainless steel ships wheel and a large fold-down chart table.
Additionally, there is a Trident propane gas control system and a True Charge 40 battery management system as well as a Blue Sea Suncharger 30 solar power system.
Seller highly recommends the book "Voyaging Under Power" by Robert P. Beebe for inspiration on long-distance voyaging in this type of vessel.
Motivated Seller - Bring All Offers!!!
Due to health issues, this vessel has not been used for several years and the pictures show that she needs some serious attention. Prior to this, per the seller, the vessel was very well maintained.
According to the seller, she needs her fuel polishing pump replaced, the autopilot needs repair and she needs a bottom job. Since he has been away from the boat for awhile, a full survey is likely to reveal other issues.
The interior of the boat could benefit from a good clean to spruce it up.
PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO WATER TRIAL AVAILABLE FOR THIS BOAT. Seller is elderly and lives in another state. It is possible to have an in-water survey and mechanical inspection/compression check carried out.
60-day Sea Tow membership* comes standard with your boat purchase!
All reasonable offers will be reviewed and presented to the seller.
All offers are contingent upon being fully satisfied with unit after personal inspection and/or professional inspection.
