1963 Diesel Shipbuilding 44 Tug in Mashappe, Massachusetts

This 44-foot tug is still in use pulling construction barges on Cape Cod and neighboring islands.

The Caterpillar D343 Turbo is still running strong.

This turbo-diesel Cat burns 10 gallons an hour at a cruising speed of 6.5 knots and towing at 3.5-4 knots it burns 13 gallons per hour.

It has two 500 gallon fuel tanks.

Diesel Shipbuilding was owned by the Coppedge family for three generations but closed in 1980 in Jacksonville, Florida.

It has a 400ft tow line of Dyneema 3-inch with 25' leg bridles.

Electronics include a Simrad NSS evo2 GPS and Simrad AP 60 autopilot in 2018. The Furuno radar was added in 2005 and working fine.

The depth sounder is Standard Horizon the there are 2 Motorola Triton 2 VHF radios.

In 2016 was hauled and the hull was audio gaged and the bulwarks were then sanded and painted and the propeller reconditioned. The decks were also painted at this time.

Below deck, the engine room allows full walkaround access to the engine making service easy.

There is a door in the bulkhead forward of the engine room for crew quarters that can sleep 2 people and for lunch breaks.

The helm has a new captain's seat comfortable for distance work with a bench seat behind.

Information On Condition

Though the cabin house shows some rust, the boat is in great operating condition and is being used regularly. The hull is structurally sound and the engine running great along with the generator. This boat can be immediately be put into service.

The main engine oil, gear oil and generator oil was changed in February 2019 at 4178 hours and again in November 2019 at 4402 hours. The main engine turbo was rebuilt in 2016.
