1932 Pioneer 39 Tugboat in Wyandotte, Michigan

Stock #195275

The historic 1932 Pioneer 32 tugboat outfitted with twin diesel Cummins engines that run great, has lots of deck space and has two cabin areas that can be converted into livable space. It also features a custom enclosed head and included a generator and heat.

The 1932 Pioneer 32 tugboat is said to have been built in Port Huron for the US Corps of Army Engineers and used as a fire boat.

It has a steel riveted hull that resists corrosion better than welded hulls of that era.

Bow and side rails were added at the lowest deck level.

Railing and step access were also added to the two levels above deck (over the wheelhouse and engine/machine room).

The wheelhouse consists of a center wheel for steering, a tach, oil pressure, water temperature and oil temperature for each engine, and throttle/shift controls. A Danforth compass is mounted to the dash.

Electronics include a Garmin echoMap 93sv GPS, Raytheon radar, a Leeson windlass control, and an Icon VHF.

There are entry doors to either side of the wheelhouse that lead to the port and starboard side deck.

Behind the helm station is a large cushioned seating area with footrests.

To port are steps that lead to one of the three cabin/compartment areas.

The midship compartment has opening portholes to either side. There is a heater mounted to the ceiling.

The forward cabin/compartment contains port holes on both sides and a 55-gallon plastic barrel with sewage lines that is used for the custom flush toilet he added.

The enclosed head has diamond plate bulkhead with a Stainless Steel door.

The enclosed head features a flush toilet, a sink, and medicine cabinet with a mirrored door. The toilet is plumbed to the 55-gallon plastic barrel. The barrel holding tank has another fitting to allow it to be pumped out from outside.

The engine/machine room is separated from the two forward cabin/compartments and head by a steel door.

The engine/machine room houses the twin Cummins diesel engines, 4 batteries per engine, a Four Bank Pro battery charging system, batteries switches, separate remote ignition switches per engine, breakers and fuses.

A Farymann diesel generator is located on the port aft corner of the engine room.

A set of stairs leads through a sliding hatch and steel doors up to the aft deck.

The aft deck has bench seats, a gas frill and swim ladder.

This well maintained, well running tug is already a great day cruiser with the potential to be made into a great overnight cruising vessel.

Information On Condition

The overall condition of the vessel is good for her age.

The tug has just recently been painted in 2017.

Specifics on the age/model/year of the engines are being verified but one engine is said to be a new rebuild installed in 2016. Engines both run excellent.
