OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY !

This 1951 RTC Shipbuilding 62 Tug worked the waterways of Philadelphia for many years.

The registered length is 63.2 but the O.A.L. is 70'

The current owner purchased the vessel in 1979 to add to their fleet of tug boats working the Chesapeake Bay. This 3rd generation tug company then spent a decade reworking this boat - adding a complete upper wheelhouse, turning the old wheelhouse into additional storage, installing newer Detroit Diesel engines, all new wiring, plumbing, etc.

The boat went into service in 1990 and has worked the Chesapeake Bay waters for the past 25 years.

Current Features:

* Main Engines are twin 16V71 NA Detroit Diesels, heat exchanger cooled on a Falk 4:1 gear box (tandem)
* 63' x 40" 4 blade bronze propeller
* 6 1/2" steel propeller shaft
* 1 - 2-71 20 KW AC Generator, 3 Phase
* 1 - 4-71T 90 KW AC Generator, 3 Phase
(Both generators are radiator cooled)
* Boiler for radiator heat
* Hydraulic steering with manual backup
* 2 - steering pumps for steering fast and slow
* Separate hydraulic system for 20 ton push winches
* 5 HP bilge / fire pump with manifold set up
* Main fuel tank (port / starboard) hold approx 8,000 gallons
* Main engine day tank is 200 gallons
* Generator fuel tank is 750 gallons
* Potable water tank is 1,200 gallons
* Ballast tank is 900 gallons
* 5 HP Capstan
* 2 - 20 ton Pilot House controlled hydraulic pushing winches. Manual back up steering
* 2 VHF radios (Icom and Uniden)
* 2 GPS (Furuno GP32 and Micrologic ML-250)
* 12" Furuno Radar FR7112 6' Open Array
* 1 Furuno Display 1713, antenna not installed yet on vessel
* Fire Alarm
* Full gauge package engine room and pilot house
* Main engine and generator alarms
* Spare propeller, new shaft, cutlass bearing, gear boxes, and other tools included in sale
* AC unit in Captain quarters.

Tug has vents for a water cooled heat pump. Heat pump is brand new and not installed yet, but will be included with purchase.

The forward Detroit Diesel engine was installed in 1990 and has approximately 10,000 hours and is operational.

In 2009 the rear Detroit Diesel engine was replaced with a RTO engine.. This is a rebuilt motor and the original hours are unknown. After installation, there have been approximately 1500 hours on this motor. This motor runs well.

This is a single screw tug, but the rudder system has been augmented to provide exceptional maneuverability. The diagram is shown in the photos.

Current Owner has a complete set of log books to document all hours on the boat.

This would be an ideal tug for another small commercial business start up or to add to their fleet.

Information On Condition

This 1951 RTC Shipbuilding 62 appears to be in better than expected condition for a 1951.

You can truly see the pride in ownership this vessel has received from this family owned business. 3rd Generation Owner.

The addition of the upper wheelhouse provides excellent visibility for today's taller barges.

The lower crew cabin is currently being repainted as shown in the photos.

The galley and head appear to be in good working condition.

The Owner states all electronics are functioning properly

The forward engine, due to its hours, would need to be overhauled at some point but is operating OK for now.

The rear engine runs well.
