This 1926 Tug was built at the San Diego Marine Shipyard. She served admirably performing harbor duties and towed between Southern California and Mexico. She served in the Navy in WWII and after WWII she came to Bellingham in 1950 and worked for Bellingham tug/barge (a subsidiary of Foss in the Seattle area). Foss was very impressed with the boat and her rock-solid performance - she took on Foss colors approximately in 1960 and towed oil barges and such around Seattle - Tacoma - Bellingham and may have called on BC ports a few times as well.
This classic and salty old gal - gets lots of attention and admiration for still performing. Reminds me of the African Queen when running - Ca Chug Ca Chug.
She holds approximately 5000 gallons of fuel, has 2 approx 1000 gallon water tanks (steel) - currently only using the starboard tank due to rust.
The boat cruises at 8 knots (9 mph) and burns a max 8 mpg.
The wheelhouse is equipped with radar, depth finder, and VHF radio. Aft of Wheelhouse is the 2 main bunks, a chart table, sink & urinal.
The focsle has 4 bunks, a galley equipped with a diesel stove, toaster oven & microwave. There is a head with a shower and a toilet that needs replacing.
She has 2 gen sets - a GMC 4 cylinder DC Gen-set that produces approximately 30KW AC and a second Gen-set 8KW that is currently not working.
The engine was replaced in 1946 - is a rare 320 hp Fresh Water Cooled (FWC) Atlas Imperial direct-drive reverse 6 cylinder engine.
There is a logbook (Lorna Foss) from the 1960s.
The boat is USCG documented the documented length is 78.8 feet but the LOA is 85 feet.
As Is Where Is - Offers are Encouraged!
Per the Seller: The boat needs work -- the engine runs fine but needs Batteries and Air Tank repairs to start it. The Air tanks are now rusted so I am no longer starting her up - as it is 250 psi to tanks and I don't trust them.
Decks/Bulwarks leak. The boat was drydocked in August 2017 - the bottom was found to be in very good condition overall. 2 coats of commercial bottom paint and a new cutlass bearing and zincs were replaced at that time.
I've reduced the price drastically due to the above issues.
