1975 Cheoy Lee 47 Yawl Yawl Sailboat in Honolulu, Hawaii

Stock #057824

Although located in Canada, due to Canadian regulations, this boat is not available for sale to potential buyers in Canada.

This classic Cheoy Lee has sailed to Tahiti. the Society, Astraul, Marquesas and other Islands of the South Pacific.

She is ready for liveaboard comfort or sailing around the South Pacific.

Sellers have been living aboard for several years and are ready for land! Unfortunately the slip in Waikiki is not transferable.

This is a very solid boat which has many projects that need to be completed to bring her back to her former glory.

Woodwork is beautiful below deck and has been well maintained. Rigging, lifelines, sails, etc. need some attention/upddating.

She is constructed of hand laid molded fiberglass reinforced plastic of variable thickness. The decks, cabin and cockpit are of molded fiberglass reinforced plastic sandwiching an inner core of marine grade plywood for support and stiffening.

The decks are over-planked in teak.

Interior bulkheads, longitudinal and flooring supports are of well laminated marine plywood. Interior trim and floor overlay is of teak. The hull to deck joint is formed by overlapping, joining, bonding, bedding and the mechanical fastening of the hull to deck seam.

The vessel is well constructed and heavily ballasted internally with lead Throughhulls, the strut and propeller are of bronze, excepting the knotmeter transducer which is of plastic type.

The propeller shaft is stainless steel and of 1 1/4 inches. Through-hull valves are of the barrel type and of bronze.

Auxiliary power is provided by a 75 HP Chrysler Nissan four cylinder diesel engine. The engine is fresh water cooled through a heat exchanger unit. Engine was rebuilt in 1993 and has only100 hours since rebuild. Currently a plate needs to be replaced before the engine can fully run.

Wheel steering is provided with a binnacle and controlled through a worm gear to quadrant system. All engine controls are operational.

The vessel's electrical system includes four heavy duty batteries (four 6 volt batteries wired in series to create two 12 volt battery banks. DC over current protection is accomplished through a twelve gang breaker panel. There is also a 110 AC shore power system. Over current protection for the 110 volt AC system is provided through a master circuit breaker and a five ganged subsidiary breaker panel. A 12 volt DC master switch isolates the two battery systems. The main switch is located at the companionway adjacent the galley. Battery replenishment is provided by an engine alternator and a Duramatic marine charger.Electrical wiring is insulated and of the stranded approved type.

Below deck there are three cabins. Well forward is a chain locker followed by a stateroom with a double V-berth. The stateroom also has adequate storage and locker access.

Aft again is the main cabin with a port side settee and starboard located bench berth. There is ample storage beneath and behind berthing.

The most unique feature of this Cheoy Lee is that access to the main deck can be reached from the main cabin by way of a ladder through an overhead scuttle hatch.

Below deck from the cockpit is a "wet room" or traditional crew quarters. Here there are two single berths on port and starboard sides along with a second head and ample storage. Ideally, this space could be reconfigured to make better use of this traditional but not so practical design.

The heads include pressure hot and cold water, marine toilets and showers. Both heads are currently used as a storage area.

The galley includes a four-burner Hiller stove/oven operated by LPG which uses propane gas, an old fashioned ice box *refrigerator', a double basin sink with hot and cold pressure water along with pantry storage and counter tops.

The interior hull and furnishings of the vessel are nicely attended with built-in teak furnishings typical of far east interior designs. There is a teak and holly cabin sole, trim and joiner work and the vessel is finely accented with quality upholstered cushions.

The electrical panel, circuitry and safety main switches are beneath the companionway. The engine is located beneath the main cabin sole deck adjacent to the companionway.

Built in 1974 by Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd. of Kowloon, Hong Kong, the Cheoy Lee Offshore 47 is a modern traditional designed and constructed blue-water sailing yawl. She has a full-finned keel with a cut-a-way forefoot sweeping aft then giving way to the moderate deadrise after section, picking up again with a full skeg and a skeg hung rudder. She boasts long overhangs with an elegant raked wine glass transom.

The vessel has a contemporary spooned bow with anchor roller provisions, an open foredeck, traditional trunk cabin with midships scuttle hatch and after main companionway hatch.

Her cockpit is aft near the stem. The stem is countered with an after lazarette. The cockpit is large with ample seating. It houses lockers and pedestal/binnacle steering.

The full yawl rigged sailing vessel has well stayed main and mizzen masts. The main mast is deck stepped as is the mizzen. Each is heavily rigged and constructed of Sitka Spruce in an traditional elliptical fashion. Rigging includes all stainless steel 1 x 19 rigging wire with roller swagged terminal end fittings. Heavy duty bronze, closed barrel and toggled rigging screws are provided.

On deck the vessel is equipped with:

-- Two two-speed Barlow 32 Genoa winches as primaries
-- Two two-speed Barlow 28 deck winches as secondaries
-- Barient halyard wire winches
-- Barlow 21 and 16 for mast halyard operations

On deck safety equipment includes:

-- Double score lifelines along with adequately spaced and secured stanchions
-- Stainless steel bow rail and a stem rail.
-- All around 4 inch bulwark/toerail - some of these currently need to be tightened or replaced.

Information On Condition

This is a beautiful boat which, with a bit of attention could be absolutely stunning again.

Several projects need to be undertaken, such as re-connecting the heads and fixing the plate in the engine.

The deck has seen better days and would benefit from some care.

Some features, such as the ice box are not currently working and would need to be re-fitted or fixed.

This is a gorgeous boat which has not received the care and attention she deserves due the owner's hectic work schedules around the world.

Because of this, they are motivated to sell and will consider all reasonable offers.

BUC Value in 'Average Condition' for the South Pacific is $74,100-$81,400!
