Now's your chance! Great price on this Hinckley!
This 1985 40' Hinckley Bermuda 40 MKIII masthead yawl is located in Bermuda (Import duty paid). She's powered with a Westerbeke diesel engine. Mooring may be available by a separate agreement. She has made nine ocean crossings, including 3 races from the US to Bermuda.
She's seaworthy, yet with beautiful classic lines. Her sailing strength lies in her performance off the wind. The full keel and centerboard make the boat easy to balance and comfortable to sail on beam and broad reaches. She is very well mannered in conditions that would give fits to the helmsmen of modern boats with high aspect fin keels and spade rudders.
Easily sailed by one or two. With the centerboard retracted, she draws 4' 6" and the full keel and trailing rudder allow confidence in seakeeping and shallow inlets.
There are sleeping accommodations for six: two in the Vee-berth, two on the convertible dinette to port in the main salon and one each on the settee and pilot berth to starboard in the main salon. The navigation station is aft to starboard...the galley is aft to port. There is one head compartment forward with a shower. The interior joinerwork is ash, and the cabin sole is solid teak and holly.
The forward cabin has two 6'8" berths. There is a hanging locker to starboard opposite a dresser with four drawers and a bin give ample storage. The head has a full-width teak trimmed Formica topped counter with a stainless steel wash basin. There is a medicine cabinet with a mirror over the washbasin, storage below the counter and a large locker outboard for storage of linens, towels, and a first-aid kit. There is a 12 volt fan, a manual marine head that used to have Lectra-San installed (and can easily be replaced).
The main salon has a dinette that converts to a double berth to port and a pilot and transom berth to starboard. Two teak Dorade boxes w/chrome cowl vents provide significant ventilation. Berths are 6'4" in length. Headroom is 6'4" in the main cabin. An Espar diesel cabin heater provides ducted hot air. There is a CD/radio sound system with stereo speakers.
The galley is aft to port and L-shaped. The stove compartment is lined with stainless steel. The icebox has an eight cubic-foot capacity, foam insulated. The Spectra watermaker is installed, but condition is unknown. A 110v/engine exchange hot water heater (10 ga. ss tank new 2017), double stainless steel sink, Technautics refrigeration, and a Shipmate three-burner gimballed propane stove/oven/broiler round out the accessory list. There is a fuel shut-off valve for galley stove (20lb alum tanks w/OPD valve), electric hot and cold pressure water system plus a manual fresh water pump (cold).
Topsides are Flag Blue Awlgrip with goldleaf cove stripe. The deck is white with contrasting cloud grey non-skid, and deckhouse is white. Bottom paint is red. There is a double white boot top and stainless trim on rubrails. Exterior brightwork is in good condition and has canvas covers.
Steering is with a Edson manual wheel steering with elk hide covered wheel. There is a 200' anchor chain, 50' chain and 100' rode, 200' nylon rode, 400' nylon rode, 40lb plough anchor which self-stows in stemhead fitting, a Danforth HT 25# anchor w/10' chain and 100' rode, a 5# grapnel anchor and Maxwell Electric windlass (2012).
